Mac laptops at half price? For real?

Would you trust someone who's selling brand new Mac laptops and iMacs at half the normal retail price? Apparently with 1 year warranty (though I think the warranty is with Apple US).
I found an ad on Locanto.
Anyone heard of Xtreme Gadgets in Port Elizabeth?

Haven't heard of any of the above, but it used to be pretty easy in the States to pick up (exchange rate dependent) a Macbook Pro for under half SA price... the gap has narrowed afaik though in recent years. Maybe have a look at current US pricing vs SA pricing and that'll give you a much better idea of the viability.

That's assuming they snuck it past customs :)

Not soooo gullible. I did subsequently check - I wrote under one email and said I was in Cape Town and got this reply:

We are situated in Port Elizabeth Central and we offer delivery services to our customers.We ship directly from our premises in P.E to your doorstep in Cape Town ...

Then I wrote under another email address saying I was in Port Elizabeth, and got this reply:

We are situated in Bloemfontein and we offer delivery services to to your doorstep in Port Elizabeth.

Sneaky.

Guys pull the same trick on Gumtree
 
Even if you imported them directly from the country with the cheapest currency relative to ours you still wouldn't get to half price of the local price.

Which means you wouldn't possibly be able to sell it at a profit for half price.

I wouldn't touch it.

How do we report this manipulating arrangement they have going on? This kinda stuff really gets to me.
 
I see "xtreme gadgets" has one positive review on hellopeter so it must be legit :D
 
lol, and use Amazon.com prices to compare goods to see if they're a good deal. If, for example, you can get a new 13.3" MacBook Pro Retina for less than US$ 1499.99 (Amazon) (exchanged into any currency) - it's probably some kind of scam.
 
about 8 months ago i came across a site that offerred practically every thing u could thing of... cameras, lenses, ipads, iphones,ipods and like everything really cheap....its all bullcrap turns out theres tonz of these people who tell you we ship straight to you and when you send them the money they tell you you must pay extra for shipping fees.... never trust people who refuse to do the deal face to face.. i did some digging around because i wanted to buy my own stuff... found my own guy whos ligit i get all my stuff from him now... he gives warranty and everything.. hes like R1500-R3000 cheaper on things like the new imacs.. if you guys want apple gadgets let me know il find out what deals i can get for you if you want :)

If they are willing to do the deal face to face, then go for it.
If not then run a mile.
 
Way to resurrect a months-old thread... I doubt he's still deciding whether to do the deal :wtf:
