Hi,
since the boys of telkom don't seem to be able to help me out, I hope somebody on the forum can?
My problem: I have a .mac account (Apple) that always worked fine on my macintosh in Europe. Since moving to SA and signing up with Telkom (ADSL + ISP), I'm unable to send mail with this account (their smtp answers me after a send: 5.7.1 : Sender address rejected: Access denied). Receiving mail works fine and another mail account I use does not have problems.
I suspect their servers block the domain (mac.com), but apperently the guy I spoke to didn't have a clue what I was talking about...
Can you shed some light on what seems to be the problem with this smtp-server (smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net) or with my mail-config? (i use "Mail" in OSX by the way)
Thanks in advance,

Joeri ([email protected])

smtp.saix.net and smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net are essentially the same thing:

Code:
[tva@zorg ~]$ host -t a smtp.saix.net
smtp.saix.net has address 196.25.240.94

[tva@zorg ~]$ host -t a smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net
smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net is an alias for smtp.saix.net.
smtp.saix.net has address 196.25.240.94

What source address are you using?

Telkom block off a large number of source domains, including gmail.com, etc. in an effort to curb spamming. This is both a blessing and a curse. It reduces spamming from their network, but does cause in inconvenience when sending mail "as another domain".

Maybe, but from a practical viewpoint, one may work and the other may not ;) Believe me, I know, I switch between them at least 3 times a year, due to telscums inability to maintain a smtp server ;)

Thanks for the replies guys, but smtp.saix.net and the ip-address gave exactly the same response (access denied etc.). I can try using another port (default = 25) or introducing a password, but i don't have an idea what that could be...
