Planned obsolescence? Lol. Cloud storage is a thing. I've got 10TB + cloud storage. No need to have more than 256gb offline storage.

At this stage, no idea. ifixit has this to say on the subject

Give them a visit.

For me I will always preach offline backup is best, kinda like breast.

Cloud = secondary.

However YMMV.
