My macbook air 2011 has been running the fan at full speed lately and it's really loud!
I tried resetting the SMC and it didn't seem to help.

Any other ideas? Maybe there's dust or something causing it to heat up?

My CPU is at low utilisation, this is just while browsing, no flash.

It's probably your graphics card fans, not the cpu.

Get something like iStat Pro to see your gpu temps.

TemperatureMonitor reports my CPU being at around 74deg C when the fan is loud.

4hdd/11/40000000:sata(0,0) can point to SSD failure, however as this Apple support note says it can be erroneous in the test is looped. Otherwise if not looped it could be indicating problems with your SSD.

Re the high fan speeds; I'd suggest you first try to determine any factors that could be causing OS X to speed up your fans. As already mentioned Temperature Monitor is a great app to monitor all your temperature sensors over time.

The 2 issues could be related, for example: if the SSD failure is somehow retarding the SSD's Apple firmware from reporting the correct temperature.
