Macbook battery health over time

Does it count as a cycle every time you plug it in to the charger? Even if you're at, say 80% and you plug in to charge to 100%, does it count as a cycle?

Five of these would be one cycle (5x 20% = 100% = 1 cycle).

Maybe I should start using it on battery more! :o

Ive only had mine for 2.5 months, not sure how the previous owners treated the battery. Best is to keep it on charge then once a week let it drop to 30% then charge and repeat.

I definitely use the battery now and again and at least try to if I haven't used it for a week or two.

Do you know if it still has the original battery installed?

So over the last week or two, I tried using mine on the battery when I'm home. I gave it a few medium load cycles as well as one heavy load cycle over the weekend. According to Coconut my capacity has climbed from 84ish% to about 90% of original design.

So my conclusion is that using a battery more and more won't make it last twice as long eventually :D but actually using it might be better than barely using it at all?

I've got a new Air and it looses a few percent battery overnight, whereas my old one would never lose even 1% if the lid was closed for a few days.

How is everyone else doing with this?

All software is standard Apple supply and up to date. Only 3rd party apps are Coconut Battery, VLC, Chrome and Transmission. And none of those appear to be causing a problem. no reports of anything gone wild or using too much resources either.

Is power nap enabled while on battery?

A great many OS changes and features happened between the two machines I would imagine?
