I've Googled it, and found some suggestions to change resolution, which is not the way I want to go.

Anyone here know a good way to change the global font size?

Have you tried Universal Access in System Preferences?
Or Show view options in Finder?
Or using ctrl-zooming?

You can't change it. You can enhance contrast, zoom in on the screen and change the font in Finder, but unless you install a 3rd party theme for OS X there's no way.

Thanks for that.

My searches have also confirmed that there's no way to increase the font size globally, quite poor I'd say.

What 3rd party theme do you recommend?

Bi-focals? :)

I'm not sure there is a global font setting - which fonts are you looking to change?

Good one :)

I'm using my reading glasses !

It's basically all the font size for the OS and all applications, which I don't want to do.
This new machine has given new life to my photo collection - the screen is unbelievable.

I can increase the font in the web browser etc and email viewing pane, but I'd like to get the same effect you'd see if you selected a lower resolution.

Sorry, I'm a Mac newbie and haven't learnt the lingo yet.

PS. I've installed FF because I'm more at home with that - do you use the default Safari web browser?

I love Safari 4! It's my favourite browser. The speed is fantastic, as is the full page zoom. However it needs a bit of help.

Get Glims for Safari, it gives you tons of extra options like custom search engines and lots more: http://www.machangout.com/

Safari Adblock (just google for it) yep. It blocks ads.

And Click2Flash, which blocks more ads, speeds up Safari and makes it more stable! Basically Flash performance on OS X is completely horrible, so this is a must have.

Lastly, I turn off Top Sites, and the webpage caching in Safari, there's a guide to it here:
http://roderick.dk/blog/2009/08/03/disable-webpage-preview-images-in-safari-4-final/
(basically you paste the following in Terminal: defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy -int 2 )

Another great browser is Omniweb. I highly recommend it!
