I noticed on the Apple.com site that all mention of the MacBook (not the MacBook Pro) is gone. Is this their subtle way of saying that it's not being manufactured anymore? Strange that this happened just after those great MacBook student deals...

Yip. It's still available for educational purposes but it's basically been killed. (They're just getting rid of old stock)

I'm happy with the replacement: the Macbook Air.

I don't think it was THAT subtle, but I have not seen any official announcement from apple either. See here http://www.iClarified.com/16128

The MacBook is dead, yes. Engadget reported earlier today that Apple confirmed that they will no longer be selling it.

So they've basically klled off the heavier version? What did it offer over the Air? An optical drive? Maybe that's the reason Lion is download only (preferably).

Pity that they killed it. Good price. Decent specs for the money. I think the 11" MacBook Air was the main reason for getting rid of it.

I think it's Apple's way of saying plastic is for plebs. :)

You are like a walking Apple advert. Love it :D

I just think Apple don't want to make more of something they don't want.

They think Air is the future. That's all.

Ok I think that's enough posts now aka "20+ posts". Now I can go back to iphoneza.co.za :P

Think they should kill the 13" MBP as well :P Macbook air has really come a long way in the past 2 years.

That would be a mistake - some people still need a small laptop with pro specs. ;)

I do think they toned down the CPU in the airs so that they didn't compete with the ones in the 13" MBP... I think apple could have stretched the air further.... Optical drive is dead ;)

One thing I do miss is a laptop lock slot... That is a necessity at work, so I'm going to have to hold onto my MBA quite tightly.

Not for me.
