Hi all
Where can I get a extention cable for my MBP power adapter and are there good alternative 3rd party options available?
I see Apple charges $20 which would probably translate to R600 or something which is half the cost of a new charging brick.

You can use any figure 8 power cable but they won't be grounded so you might feel a slight tingling in your hands when you use it.

What I did was just cut the plug off and join another cable on the end.

Amazon sells a good aftermarket one $6.99 made by otmake, have bought them before. Only problem is it will have a US plug. Otherwise ebay sells many from the Far East.

I have one ending in a 3 pin plug. And no its not for sale.
Came with my macbook pro when I bought it second hand

6' is the standard length, isn't it? Maybe I'm just wrong thinking he wanted something longer than the standard length?

The 6ft will be fine, I don't have one at all at the moment so have to plug the brick directly in to the wall.

The only Otmake one I can find on Amazon is $14.
I think I'll go with the R299 one from Tangled. As far as I know import tax on cables is very high for some reason so getting anything from Amazon will probably not be worth it.

Amazon will charge you any applicable taxes. For example I found a cable for $7.99 - with shipping, duty etc it comes out to $16.20, or just over R206.

They don't come with new MBPs anymore, brick goes straight into the wall then falls out constantly. That might be the reason?

Was not aware of that. Fortunately I've got a boat load of cables lying around. :)

They aren't grounded either way...have you seen a figure of 8 with a third pin?

****

I stand corrected I see the metal slide on pin for the longer cable is in fact a ground. I don't recall ever seeing a metal contact on the inside of those connector though but maybe also never looked properly.

This would explain why so many Macbooks have given me a slight buzz in the past. :)

 I said the generics aren't grounded. It's the apple ones that are.

But they aren't.

That's what I'm saying. There is no third pin inside the power adapter for it to ground to.

Figure of 8 is a 2-pin en klaar.

Sure there is - you're just not looking in the right place. :)

It's in the groove
