Macbook Power adaptor/Magsafe wanted - used/broken

Help me out please!!

The springs under the pins on my MagSafe1/ L connector has sagged, so the pins don't push out far enough to make secure contact to charge/power my MB. Flipping it either side has you wiggling it like crazy to get it to connect and the moment it moves it loses connection.

I disassembled it but the fault is within the molded section holding the pins, so cutting it open will be a last ditch effort...not to be tried unless I have a back-up charger.

So anyone with an old or preferably busted powerblock/broken cable I can buy to cut the cable & L connector off??? Can get Chinese repro cables for R175 ish but that is going to take a month to get here....trying to get a quick fix first.

Only Apple will take something as simple as a charging jack and complicate the crap out of it for no reason.

I'm sorry but if you have kids or pets the MagSafe is the best thing ever.

Considering mine has been fallen over at least three times and each and every time my Macbook didn't even move...it's certainly not complicated for no reason.

It saves a very expensive laptop from being replaced every time.


That being said they can improve the entire sleeve of the cord so it doesn't start shearing so easily.
 
Just had a MagSafe 2 fail... Still had my old MagSafe 1 lying about and the adaptor costs R175.00. Better than R1150.00 for sure.
OP, sorry can't help, using mine. :(

They could have not used "springs" so the pins are in a fixed position or would that not work?

I'm guessing, but I would think it's to do with the fact that it's a magnetized setup so the pins need to be spring loaded to accommodate that.

Otherwise it would work just like any other power supply with a pin sliding into a female socket and getting stuck there.

The point here is that nothing ever "locks" so that it separates easily in an "emergency".
 
I'm forever tripping over cables....so the magsafe has saved my MB so many times I will not really even feel bad forking out the R1190 TBH.
Great idea that worked flawlessly for 4 years, getting removed and reattached at least 5 times a day & the angle this sits at is light years ahead of the MagSafe2 that has the wire dangling at 90 degrees whatever you do.

Anyways....

Where are you based? I know a spot in cape town where you can get the chinese adaptors for like R200. Don't really trust knockoff electronics but that'd be your prerogative.

I just don't wrap mine too tightly and it's worked well for three different MacBooks now.

Just make the loop big enough and there's no reason it should be an issue.

Yet my colleague has managed to cock up two power supplies already.

FreeState, sadly.
I just need the connection L piece, so will probably cut the wire on whatever I get, so not too worried about crappy electronics & hoping the mechanical bits will be OK.....which is why one that is busted is the ultimate solution to be sure the MagSafe is quality.
 
Have you tried a bit of wd40 on the pins and a gentle spin/wiggle with a pair of pliers?

I did, the pins move freely...if you turn if upside down and tap it they will move out. This is why it will work with some jiggling. I think it must have gotten real hot at some point while connected with the springs compressed, and they failed.

They are real small as you can see, but by the time you've reached them, you've buggered the poor thing....I stopped short of ripping the pins out and just reassembled it as it still works somewhat.
As you can see on this pic, their one pin is also sagging.

Oh no he's has been repaired both times so it's still the original unit.
