here's my dilemma - I have to spend some money on new hardware otherwise the tax man gets it so I'm looking at a macbook pro but because the price between the 15" and 17" is only about R2000 its a hard decision. I'd really like the portability of the 15" but the 17" screen is very sweet for doing design work.

Or what about getting the 15" and then a 24" tft for use at the office?

Last idea

I like the last suggestion. I travel alot and there's no substitution for a portable unit - even battery life is better. Nice to open it on the plane's eating tray without encroaching on your neighbour's space.

Even the 17" fits on a cattle class tray table with no overhang.

Don't forget that you're probably going to eat up the R2000 difference in price with the extra stick of ram and a good sleeve.
Have a look at the Booq vyper or the STM Rebound.

If you're not going to be mobile a lot, why not go for the new 24" iMac instead? You get a better resolution screen, even in the 20" flavour.

Cool- Thanks for the links - wouldn't want R20000 worth of kit getting knocked around -

I think I'm gonna go for the 15" - Cause portability is a must.

I've got a 17" powerbook and have never wished I'd gotten anything different. Nothing beats the extra real-estate.

I have a 17" Macbook Pro (upgraded from a 15" HP), and travel with it every single day to clients. The extra bit of size really doesn't make a difference, plus you will be the envy of everyone wherever you park off to work (or play) :D If the difference is R2000, you are definitely going to kick your own @ss after a month if you get the 15"

K thanks - seems like the 17 inch in the one to go for
