MacBook Pro batteries crushed by load shedding?

I’ve got a 2017 MB Pro, and an identical work machine. Both are connected to those heavy duty surge protector Ellies Units.

I got the “service battery” warning on my personal laptop, and I’d say within 2 weeks I got it on my work laptop. Their battery cycles are not even close though (personal one is low 300s, work one is 600s or thereabouts)

Any idea if this is damage from load shedding or some other form of witchcraft, and would insurance cover repairs on it?

I’m with @bwana on this one it’s probably just coincidence they doing it now during increased shedding. They’re probably nearing end of life.

Nope, no inverter sadly. I have a stand-alone Gizzu portable battery pack for when I need power during load shedding.

Poorly.
Personal machine cuts out after less than an hour (and battery percentage doesn’t accurately track the decline)
Work machine cuts out after about 2 hours.

Have same thing with Dell Laptop, got message since load shedding started. The battery did not last as long as I would expected........Good luck farmers with your battery trucks and other heavy farm equipment, start planting batteries as well, maybe they take roots and grow.

Yes. The clock it ticking as soon as it's manufactured. Five years is really nothing to complain about, unlike the hassle of actually changing that battery. Apple doesn't make it easy.

Cycle count isn't the only measurement for battery wear.

300 cycles for a 6 year old machine is very low indeed, but keep in mind that having a battery stagnate and not being used 'enough' can degrade it faster than putting a cycle on it everyday.

5 years for a LiPo battery isn't unusual esp if its been run hot
Maybe install coconut battery to get more info and mac turbo boost switcher to save the remaining battery

Thanks! Actually checked Coconut on the personal machine and it seems the battery was replaced in 2019 or after, as the date of manufacture of the battery is 2019.
