MacBook Pro RAM from sybaritic

I have 2x2GB 1066 Mhz RAM I took out of my 2010 MBP lying around if anyone is interested...
 
I've also successfully put higher speed memory into Macbooks before. I have seen reports around the net of people sometimes having problems putting faster RAM into machines, PCs included. The only issue I've ever had was when the RAM was not properly seated.

They said they don't do refunds so I need to be sure it's gonna work.
Anyone have experience with them?
No, but not sure I'd do business with a shop that refuses to give a refund (probably illegal to refuse in fact).

Best list the models then because it doesn't work in some and it's certainly not because of seating problems.
 
I'm using 2x 4GB Corsair 1333Mhz in my mid 2010 MacBook Pro - works fine for me.

Just wish it could support 16GB :)

What possible reason would I have to keep a list of the laptops into which I have installed RAM?

The time I had an issue that was because the RAM was not properly in the slot, it both looked and felt like it was. Took a good firm shove to get it in enough. On another of exactly the same make and model it slipped in easily.

Not looking for PC laptops which usually have no problem down-clocking RAM, looking for MacBooks. I was hoping you could remember a few, can't be that hard.
 
Really, you cheapskates should buy the Apple branded ram which will work and stop complaining! :D

Just note that the newer ram supports lower voltages which the MacBooks don't accept, ram has to be 1.5v. Furthermore the only timings for 1333 and 1600 mhz which work in the MacBooks are 9-9-9-24, there are issues with instability and lock ups with other timings.

Edit: Sorry I am referring to the Macbook Pro 8.x series, to ensure that the ram you purchased will work for the mac you have, just check that the FSB or the memory controller is capable of using that speed WITH the most common CL timing. Generally speaking, Macbook Pro's will under clock ram to the level they can use as long as the CL timing is correct. Higher frequency ram have higher CL timings and it is known that the Macbook Pro 8.x series can not use 1866mhz RAM with CL 11 timings but can use 1600MHZ ram with CL9 (CL 10 is usable but unstable). This has to do with the custom BIOS (forgot its proper name) that Apple uses and it is EXTREMELY picky.

Interesting, would 9-9-9 be the same? The Kingston RAM kilobits and myself mentioned is "9-9-9" according to product sheet.

Those newer modules should support the lower voltage and 1.5v, so they should work. Older 1.5-1.65v modules likely won't work in new machines that need 1.35v modules. Memory that supports faster timings than required should work too (it's the same memory, only it passed the tests at the faster timing).
 
Just to clarify, I am referring to the Sandy bridge based Macbook Pro's. I don't have that much cash to buy every new Macbook iteration to test :D.

It should, the timings seem fine so just ensure you are using a 1.5v ram module.

Not exactly sure what you mean with your first sentence. Specifically the MacBook Pro line with the 8.x marker, the sandy bridge revision, doesn't support the Intel XMP specification for ram and therefore will not support ram that is XMP with the lower 1.35 voltage, also faster timings do have an impact for Macbook Pros specifically, it has been tested that CL10 is unstable and CL11 & CL7 will produce kernel panics. I forgot to mention however, that I'm refering to different RAM speeds. At 1600mhz CL9 is fine but people who tried 1866mhz at CL10/11 produced kernel panics (1866mhz can't be tested at CL9 because they aren't manufactured or are exceptionally rare). As far as I am aware, 1333mhz and 1600mhz RAM in SA only come in CL9.

In general the DDR3 RAM that has been specced at 1.35V will also work at 1.5V.
 
Wow looks like I've started quite a debate.
Anyways, I ordered the sybaritic 1066 RAM that I listed on the first post & it seems to be working fine.

C would be the only ones that meet DDR3L specifications. A would meet DDR3 specifications. B would be out of spec.
 
@Speedster, did you remove the RAM, replace it, and then your laptop got stolen?
