Macbook Pro Ram

Hopefully Landyman will see this thread - he recently got another gb.

Have you checked that yours only has 1x 1gb in it now and not 2x 512mb?

EDIT - I got mine from CompUSA but that doesnt do you much good does it :o

Axiz, if you know someone with a dealer account, are quite good. Any brand name memory will do.

There is a small electronics store next to the Apple store at the Waterfront and they might be able to help you.

you mean Gadget Guru? i didn't know they sold ram, especially not 200 pin 667MHz ram. those guys are amazing though. i remember they got the ipod nano into the country before any of the mac stores.

Hi Guys,

i want to know if 256mb pc266 and can be upgraded to 512mb ddr400. Will this work?

i'm in need of a 1gig stick of ram for my 2.16ghz 17" macbook pro. where's, other than a mac store, is the best place to buy it.

Hi discourse,

I got mine from Axiz, via our company account ... they are the distibutors of Kingston in SA, which is my preferred replacement brand.

The Kingston module number is KTAMB667/1G ... I got mine for just over R1200, but that is via dealer channels

thanks Landyman. i will go with the Digicape option R1424 for Kingston. i don't really want to wait that much longer :) my ebay purchases have taken longer to arrive recently and the've been slapped with vat which i don't understand.

Is there a difference between the RAM used in a MAC & PC. I have a customer that requires RAM for his MAC laptop but I'm not sure if normal ram will work or if there is a different type that MAC's use, he requires "1GB SODIM PC5300 modules for Apple Mac", I offered him a KingMax DDR2 1GB 667MHZ SO/DIMM (STK#: KSCD48F-A8KB5-F),

Go to www.kingston.com, select the notebook you want replacement ram for, get the product code, and look on google for alternatives to Kingston. That's the best way to make sure you get the right one

There is no difference - I got my DDR2 667 1 gb sodimm sticks from a PC wholesaler and they work fine. Follow Landyman's advice to make sure yu get the right specs.

The ram you describe looks like DIMM not SODIMM. Intel macs all use SODIMM (notebook) memory, except for the Mac Pro which uses Fully Bufferred DIMM's.

Buying 2 GB of Mac Pro RAM from these guys. Their RAM is rated higher than Crucial's. SO Mac Book Pro - all the way too I guess.
Shipping is $35 FedEx to SA. Accept Credit cards too.

@PeterCH

Not bad pricing at all.. including the shipping, it works out cheaper than what I paid. Maybe I must get an HDD upgrade from them.

Yeah that site has good reviews on MacNN and these other Mac user
websites. Their RAM has a lifetime warranty too.
