Macbook Pro Retina ANGER

even without the discount for 20k its hard to find in retail stores equivalent for the same price.

20k might be expensive but the equivalent windows laptop is that much more expensive.

Sure. Macs aren't really overpriced I agree. If you compare it against something like a Sony Vaio or a Panasonic Let's Note, or an Alienware, you're paying much less.

Funny how that wasn't always the case.

i need the programs in Windows. Visual studio most importantly.

No exclusive right click button on the laptop apart from two tap is probably my biggest gripe but i guest i will get use to it

Two finger tap becomes 100% natural with a bit of time dude.

Same goes for two finger scrolling and natural scrolling. Do it for a week and it will be perfectly normal to you.

My MBPr is hopefully being delivered tomorrow. Can't wait. Reading this and other threads in eager anticipation of this new experience. :)

Congrats (premature ;))

Thank you. :) It is AWESOME. :D Received it early this morning and have been playing with it for the most part of today. Absolutely love the OS, the trackpad, the laptop look and feel in general. Very happy so far.

Obviously going to take some time to get used to a completely new OS after 15 years on Windows, lots to learn, but it already feels very intuitive. Going to see how far I can get before installing something like Parallels.

No sense in delaying the installation of Parallels; it's part of the experience.

What is your opinion about Parallels vs VirtualBox? I have a Windows work laptop so MBP mostly for playing around, I don't see the need for too many Windows programs. Photoshop I'll get the Mac version. Perhaps MS Office which I've already bought the Windows version.

For low key needs VB may be a good (free) option?

I'll usually give the free option a fair shake first.

Fwiw I'm moving my virtual box off to an external and reclaiming that 8gb of valuable drive space. It gets used so rarely it's not worth it any longer.

Good point, will try it first.

You should try all 3 (VMWare. Parallels, and VirtualBox) to make up your own mind.

Personally I went from VirtualBox to VMWare and finally to Parallels, essentially I found Parallels to be the best performer.

Install windows in three virtual environments? Personally I've got better things to do with my time. That said I might if running windows on my mac was absolutely critical but in undesign's case it doesn't seem to be. Considering that he's still got a windows laptop I wouldn't even bother at this stage.

Lol...
You seem a little clueless on this one (strange as you're often not)

Basically you setup a VB installation, and either VMWare or Parallels have the ability to migrate this without any need to reinstall; it's btw been like that for quite a few a years, very simple.

Ah - fair enough. I'm not clued up at all on running windows on my mac - as far as I'm concerned its a pointless exercise and a waste of space.

But, if you're saying set up VB first then why not test it out and see if it ticks the necessary boxes before installing the other two?

Lol re wasted space -- sadly not everyone's workflow is that simple.

As you said the ultimate choice will depend on how frequent he plans to use Windows. VB is definitely not an ideal solution for regular use.

Virtualbox at no costs ticks all the boxes for running my Windows and Linux VM's...which like Bwana I use very rarely and almost always just for testing the nonsense my clients get up to.

I find the pro 2012 model sluggish, the air 2012 equivalent had better screen and was faster to use. My 5c

Most corporates are firmly entrenched in Microsoft tech, but similarly want to enjoy the fruits of the iPad, iPhone and Android world -- so my Macs tend to be littered with an assortment of stuff.

Geez life would be so much simpler if I only had to maintain an Objective-C code source, unlike today where it's littered with IDEs for Android, IOS/OS X and Windows.

Thankfully so far none of them seem to like the new Windows phones.

pro or air better in opinion? air seems much nicer

It really depends on which models.

The main difference between the current Airs / Pros is Retina and weight.

The Macbook Air currently is the lightest of the Apple Laptops, but unfortunately they still don't have Retina displays (possibly next year)

The Macbook Pro retina is clearly marketed as their top end laptop, supporting both Retina (high definition) displays and a typically higher internal spec, but this comes at a cost (money and weight)

Their most popular design is certainly the Macbook Air.
