Hi,

I've had my Macbook Pro Retina for a couple of months but all of a sudden I notice quite severe ghosting / burn-in issues with the display as has been reported by many other users on the internet. Had anyone else here experienced ghosting issues with their Macbook Pro Retina? If so, have you had any issue in resolving this with the iStore / Core?

Which display you got?
LG or Samsung?
LG has these issues.
You can check here:

Maybe Core will replace your computer for one with a Samsung screen.

I've had a look and I've got the LG.

Spoke with Core and they said I must bring it in and they will have a look. They would however not give any indication whether they will exchange it or not, which is why I wanted to know whether anyone else had the issue and if Core exchanged it for them.

My added dilemma is that I am only back in the Joburg area on Saturday and I am then leaving the country on Wednesday for the next year, so I REALLY hope they can sort it for me on such short notice. If they can't then hopefully I can at least get it replaced somewhere else in the world - warranty should be international as far as I understand...

Your chance is probably better to get it replaced overseas than in SA. Just have your Core receipt.

A friend dropped his new iPhone 4 GS. He's American and he bought it in SA thru official channels (not grey). It cracked screen. Local guys said Rxxxx to fix. He went to Apple store in USA, they checked serial no and just gave him a brand new one.

I had problems with 3 different iPads and each time Core gave me a new one. No need for proof of purchase. They just checked the serial number to confirm the warranty.

Just to give you a headsup regarding Core. We had 3 i-Macs that were part of a batch we later found to have been victim of inferior display panels. They started to develop dead pixels within the 1st 3 months. Core claimed that this was not covered by the 1 year warranty, as there too many variables which lead to dead pixels on a display. That... after sending them screenshots of threads on APple's support forum showing pages of people having the same problem. (We took screenshots because Apple kept deleting the threads.) We had to take the fight to Apple themselves - screenshots and all. After a couple of heated e-mails, we managed to find someone at Apple Head Office who was able to 'instruct' Core to replace the displays.

They replaced all 3 i-Macs completely over the course of the year. When 2 of the replacement machines developed dead pixels again, we were back at square 1 because the warranty period of the original set of i-Macs had elapsed by a month. Core once again refused to take any responsibility and again we were forced to take the fight to Apple HO. The story goes on... and then some!

Core will always try their utmost to dispute a warranty claim. Even if Apple acknowledge an inherent problem. I am not saying this will be the case, but just saying that if you do not come right with Core, take it up with Apple themselves. They have the power to command compliance from Core. It is their reputation on the line. That, and the fact that they still own the hardware even though you bought it. (part of their EULA.)

Actually such an EULA would be illegal and therefore not binding. Once you bought (not rented) the item, you own it, no EULA can get out of that. Not in the US, not in SA. (Of course you may not reverse engineer etc.)

He must have purchased AppleCare for it in the states - either that or he got very lucky with a very generous Apple store employee.

Can you copy and paste in that particular part of the warranty?

Even if Core can't sort you out, you should be covered under one year international warranty.

You should be able to walk into any Apple shop and get it sorted out.

I don't think he did, at least he had no opportunity to do it before the screen shattered as he was here at work and not in the US.

He had a Vodacom or MTN supplied iPhone from SA as he's a permanent resident here with a work permit. He traveled to NY on business and went into an Apple shop not expecting this to happen. He was very surprised.

My thinking is that it was a generous Apple employee. But from my own experience, this tends to happen more with US and other foreign co's than our local ones.

This was sent to me a while back, but reading it again, it could be out of context. I thought it only applies to Apple Software , but was told this applies to all Apple products.... software & hardware.

Well it's Lucky Goldstar's fault. Samsung's panels work 100% so if you have a Samsung, you're guaranteed not to have this problem.

almost R30 000 ,00 for a whole lot of bugs , really wanted to get one

R24.000 for Basic model which is more than good enough. You can get a better SSD later, one which is faster than the Apple one anyway, and cheaper, from OWC. One thing you can't do is get more RAM, but 8 GB is good enough for HD editing and Photoshop, unless you really run some huuuuge files.
