Can anyone recommend a good place to buy a replacement battery for a unibody 2011 17" Macbook Pro?
A few keys have stopped working on my keyboard. Initially, I wasn't really sure what the problem is (and still not sure) but last tonight the battery depleted completely. I wasn't able to get the charger in time and for some reason it didn't do the emergency hibernate thing that it usually does. Well anyway, it wouldn't start after that even after completely recharging the battery. I couldn't do that SMC reset because the control key isn't working so I decided to open up the back and unplug the battery to do the reset. Well I did that and it didn't work. I then unplugged the battery and turned tried the power and it worked. I shutdown and plugged the battery back in and it is working as it did before now.
There does seem to be something strange going on and I have read that the a swelling battery can causes some keys to stop working so I thought I would just try that before taking it in somewhere. It probably needs new battery anyway so it couldn't hurt. I am going to get one of those tools (anyone know where I can get one?) needed to remove the battery and see if removing the battery resolves the keyboard issues before I get a new one. I know you are not supposed to remove the battery but it is three years old and not under any warranty or anything so it would only really effect me if there is a recall (which is extremely unlikely) or something right?
Anyone have some good recommendations?
