With time the 4 little plastic feet under my 15in Macbook Pro came off and got lost, does this influence the ventilation and thus the performance of my laptop?

Those feet are there for a reason, and yes, this could potentially overheat your laptop. In your position I would get 4 rubber washers and glue them in place.

I don't think the macbook has ventilation slots on the under side. You should be able to find replacement rubber feet at a electronics shops, just take a sample with and find a suitable size that close enough and replace all off them. If they are special in some way then order replacements online or try your local apple outlet.

The air intake is that gap between the display and the case i doubt u need those rubber feet they provide stability

+1

I just got my macbook pro a few days ago and also wondered where the ventilation was cos I couldn't see anything underneath, until I felt some heat coming out where the screen hinges onto the body.

Yes, they stop your laptop from sliding all over the desk, I'd replace them too.

What temperatures are you guys running at?

Using Magican I have 59 CPU - 49 GPU - 42 Disk

(boiling hot cpt day today, running virtual machines and several other apps)

CPU 57°c - GPU 43°c - Disk 40°c

Ambient room temp 30°c

CPU 69°, GPU 56° and Disk 35°c and it's a balmy 23° in Johannesburg this afternoon.

Your ventilation is through the rear by the screen hinges.

If I were you, I'd get a HardShell case which will prevent it from sliding around and it would look good too.

Tho if cash is an issue, rubber washers will do :)

For anyone worried about their Mac getting too hot, you can download smcFanControl and create work profiles to raise the minimum fan speed on your MBP -- for example higher minimum fan speeds for games or CPU intensive tasks

10/10 for smc fan control - my one mbp started having display issues as the machine was getting too hot during lots of movie conversion jobs etc. smc solved that issue ! apple were wanting to replace the main board !!

Glad it could help

I wasn't happy with the very small plastic feet under both of my MBP's. It would not allow enough clearance on my desk - small debris/grains of sand would get between the MBP and the desk, and if I pushed the MBP i would start to get scratches on the underside.
For over a year now, I resorted to sticking those thick round "feet" made of felt material on the underside of the MBP. One on each corner. They are supposed to be used under the legs of furniture - so the furniture doesn't scratch your floor. They are sticky on one side, with felt on the other and are round and about the size of a R 5.00 coin. I now get about 5mm of clearance off the desk, it slides freely on my desktop and my latest 16 month old MBP is without scratches, and it seems to run cooler.
