I doubt anyone is arguing that, it's also a stupid comparison. Any hardware capable of running different OSs can do the same thing.

Maybe. I suppose zippy was asking in terms of OSX specifically and I was looking at it from a general Mac perspective.

Fair enough but that's cheating :p

I'm yet to install Windows on it via dual boot... It was my intention but I'd rather not at my SSD is the 128GB (90GB or so left though). If I ever need to, that's what I'll do but all seems well right now!

How are things with your MBA?

Oh but it's much more than that. Seems like Windows mentality to me.

Since getting to know Macs for the first time earlier this year, I've been thinking about questions such as these. The best wat to get the point accross is by asking these questions:

How often do people move from traditional PC laptops to Macs?
How often do people move from macs to traditional PC laptops?

My impression is that the large majority of people who have exposure to macs, stick to them. They've learned that computing is about more than the any single feature or combination of specs. The ease of use these computers offer is just really hard to give up, but it comes down to great design, quality materials, attention to detail, and integration of hardware and software.

So there you have it from a person who understood nothing of this only a year ago, but will buy a 22k Macbook Pro in an instant again. The value they offer is quite a bit higher than the typical 13k Asus or Dell after accounting for the price difference I'd say.

Slight update: This thing chews up RAM!!

I've got 13 apps on the machine. The only two I can think of that will run in the background is CleanMyMac and AVG.

Attached is a picture of the RAM usage after a shutdown and restart with no apps open other than CleanMyMac where I took the photo.

As soon as I open up 5 or so Auto Trader adverts in Safari, all the RAM is chewed up and the machine becomes unusable! Connecting to a Windows PC on the network froze Finder and I had to restart the MacBook as I did when Safari killed it.

Should I uninstall CleanMyMac and AVG? Does anyone have any ideas? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1450899891.322722.jpg

Why do you even have clean my. Mac and avg?? Take it off.

Read up about how OS X uses memory and it will make sense, OS X is actually good ant it. I can't remember but the inactive or the wired memory is actually memory that hasn't been dumped yet so it is available for programs that are opened.

Ps why get a 4Gb in 2015?

I used Clean My Mac on a Hackintosh I built a few years back and it seemed decent to uninstall apps and stuff like that :D. AVG, because I'm too used to Windows I guess. Both have been removed now!!

Bought the machine used and it was within budget. Previous laptops were the Dell E7240 for a day (I found the MBA just after I bought it so I sold it) and the HP 840. Both were i5s with 4GB RAM and it's always been enough.

Makes sense. Is performance bugging you? If not hen don't worry about RAM... It isn't Windows ;)

A lot like Windows does.

Although neither appears to be consuming much memory. CleanMyMac is decent for uninstalling. Helps to remove the junk that deleting the app leaves behind.

Uninstalling is the only reason I got the app. I removed both and the laptop is a lot smoother :)

Your kidding right?

It does not use memory like windows.
