Macs don't need BootCamp to dual boot!

When I was doing my research on dual booting my MacBookPro and installing windoze on an external usb HDD, I came across a couple of discussion threads that explained that it was the SMC firmware upgrade that allowed the mac to be able to dual boot windows, not bootcamp per se.

What bootcamp does is make it easy to partition your disk to create space for windows, and make the apple drivers for windows install disk.

Looks like you can setup your mac to dual boot completely manually, even though you are going to need to download bootcamp anyway to extract the disk image for the driver cd.

I admit that its really easy to use bootcamp, buy it does have some limitations, like a 5gb minimum partition size.

A lot of people want os x and windows on separate drives, and that extra little bit of control over customising the dual boot setup.

Some people are setting up windows on the internal drive and booting OS X from external firewire - not something that I think will work too well on the macbooks/pros.
