I've heard of so-called "Magic settings" to make P2P programs faster on IBurst. Is this true?

P2P? Nope, no magic settings there that I know of.

Unless those magic settings are putting in your proxies username and password. the only way to speed up P2P is by using a proxy, now you just need to find one.. hopefuly one that you dont have to pay for. otherwise its R60pm from Openweb for one of these.

You can enable encryption on your torrents, that certainly made a BIG difference to my downloads.

Oh, yes. For torrents you can do that.. The same doesnt really apply for normal P2P though, or it would be hard to do I guess..

I never work with torrents though..

1. Anyone have a link as to where I can find a free proxy? I tried OpenWeb, couldn't find a thing.

2. How do I encrypt my Torrents?

To encrypt your torrents, you need to be using azureus. You'll find it by searching the preferences for "encrypt".

As for openweb - I am not so sure of them. I was a bit confused by their web site and ended up ordering the wrong package, so I emailed them to cancel my order (with the intention of placing a new order for the unshaped package later this month as it is substantially more expensive), but after two emails I've yet to have a response confirming cancellation...

I got my Torrents encrypted now, and I got great results for a few minutes! (They were going at 2kB/s before encryption. After it, they went at 30kB/s!

However, they seem to be quite slower now, ranging from 5kB/s - 10kB/s. Any idea as to why this happened?

Torrents depend on the seeding ratio, basically how many people are letting other upload the file from them. You also have to have a sufficient upload rate to other people in order to download at better speeds.

So basically it depends on the popularity of the torrent, its always good to test torrent speeds with a very well seeded torrent like the latest episode of say Smallville or South Park or something.

Uploading basically doubles the ammount of bandwith I use. Should I set my upload speed higher? I'm downloading a 240mb file. Will uploading double this size in terms of bandwith usage?

No, you shouldnt set it higher, but you should set it as high as you need in order to get a reasonable download speed.

I think at 30kb you should maby even lower the upload speed if it doesnt affect your download speed.

The uploading part is basically why I dont use torrents. You usually wont do double your bandwidth in upload speed, but it could get close, and thats just a stupid way of downloading in SA if you ask me.

thanks for the tip on setting the upload speeds. im now downloading at 40kbs. my uploading isnt using that much bandwith either. sweet work. :)

Torrents

Actually more than double if you wait for automatic removal rules. Just time it correctly. I start downloading new big torrents when I'm capped. Then I don't limit the upload. Uploading will then be fast, like ur upload will constantly run at 10kB/s. But you're capped so who cares. Then it gives you good ratio. Next month, when uncapped, limit the upload on azureus to 1kB/s. Then you should be able to download as fast as you can based on the ratio and number of seeders. These downloads will eat up your cap. Once capeped, download new torrents, and so forth and so forth.

Basically, it will take a month to get a game down. But your uncapped bandwidth is then more used for downloads instead of uploads. If it eats your uncapped bandwidth too quickly, only start the torrents on the 20th (for example). it should finish in a day, then use the rest of the 9-10 days to get a good upload on the new torrents.

for encryption:
Im in version 2.5.0.0
Go to Tools --> Options.

Then goto Connection --> transport encryption.

There you tick Require Encrypted Transport
Set the Minimum encryption Level box to RC4.

Enjoy

You can also Encrypt in uTorrent and Bitcomet BTW I'm just not sure if the effect works as well. I really don't want to install the memory and cpu hog that is Azureus on my system again just for testing tho :/

I use UTorrent anyway. I didn't like Azureus, and uTorrent loads up much faster, though I'm not sure if it downloads faster?

its much smaller in size and uses up less resources thats for sure.......
