the guy already said he is not much of a linux admin and you got him editing files etc. I'm quite sure he can just replace the word "mutt" with the word "mail". If the server was setup correctly, especially for R1600 an hour, that should work.
SUSE uses Postfix and logs to /var/log/postfix. Unless you have Plesk installed, in which case you probably have qmail (horror) and your logs are tucked away under /usr/local/psa/var/log/maillog
After reading the documentation Mick gave me about Mutt. I found out that Mutt doesn't have SMTP functionality. So I started researching Postfix as Koffie suggested and managed to find a relay host settings which solved the problem.
