Ok, so some BOFH nutjob has gone and installed mailmarshal and webmarshal at the company I work for. We previously had websense. Now suddenly this webmarshal prohibits downloads of any kind (e.g. pdf, .xls etc). Really frustrating!! The other problem is that it has a usage quota management system. Believe it or not but we are only allowed 15mb's a week!! It also prohibits all emails in bound or out from having any attachments e.g. pdf, jpg, ppt etc. WTF!! Now I get phone calls from clients who tell me their mails were blocked etc!! I have tried talking to the BOFH and our Top Honcho Manager but they just don't get it. They obviously are stuck in 1970. The boss actually said that I can always post items the traditional way or courier them. I was then really naaaaaaaarrrrr.

Ok, to cut a long story short, it seems these guys are on a mission to root out some company bandwidth hogs! But what can I do about this browsing quota problem. 15mb per week WTF!!

Nowadays a lot of webpages load lots of graphis, flash ads etc and are quite chunky bandwidth monsters.

What can I do ...for example settings in IE6 to ensure that I can the most of my allowance. Is there something I can do or is there nothing.

I noticed that News24.com really chews through my bandwidth quota at a massive pace. If I'm on it for say 30 minutes my 15mb's for the whole week is gone!

Any tips would be appreciated.

You can always pm me if you like;)

Another misinformed IT department. Do you work for Momentum because i know they use Websense (Maybe used to use Websense)

Your boss is a freakin idiot... Your line will now mostly be unused, just lying there...
See if you can get your work's router into half-bridge mode, then they can continue on their crappy system and you can dial up using your own account???
Or are you also running some crap like Novell?

I'm running vista, so I'm not too sure where the settings in IE6 is exactly, but you can turn off loading picrures and sounds (and when you wanna see a pic, you just right-click and say "show picture")

EDIT : *And I see you've now got 1000 posts :) - well done...*

This would be the same corporate leader you were raving about in April? :p

Yep..Novell!!!!!

and yes I am finally a Grandmaster. rofl

I work at a company that ships out courier bags by the truckload, chews through boxes of paper at around 10 - 15 a day (you're talking about 20 000 sheets a day) and this is all okay. But try convince them that using the FTP server to move around 25mb a day is actually cheaper that printing and couriering... and slam... brick wall.

are you using ISA firewall client.
Because then u can get past it
with vista also :)
