Maintenance Plan vs Service Plan

Having not taken a Maintenance or Service Plan on my 2nd hand 2008 model with 95 000km on in two years of ownership I still haven't spent half of what just the service plan would have cost on my car which is now at 136 000km.

The service plan would have just run out at the beginning of December.

Unless you can get it "free" as part of the deal I generally wouldn't bother, especially not while in warranty.

Warranty is like your Guarantee against major defects, and if you have a problem, it's usually too much hassle to even think of claiming!

Claiming is your problem as a dealership not mine as a customer.

My current car hasn't had any problem but my previous Ford Fiesta I had claimed endlessly under warranty including a complete replacement of both the brake pads and discs which warped prematurely. The CD player that stopped working, the rear boot lid that didn't seal and therefore leaked continuously etc.

On my bikes I've claimed everything from wheel bearings to brake discs to indicator bulbs under warranty. Even a plastic part that cracked due to over-torqueing.

+1

I also opted for maintenance plan, I think it might be cheaper to do things yourself in the long run, but there are enough things to worry about my car should not be one of them.

Now I only need to pay for tyres every once in a while the rest is covered and paid for.

60 000km service plan came free with my car I only paid 3k extra for extended warranty to 220 000km.
