I am trying to find out a bit more about the President of COP17,Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.

1)I did not realise she is our Minister of Foreign Affairs.
2)I can't find her Educational Qualifications.
3)She was the Arrogant Minister,that refused to have her handbag checked,at Oslo Airport,and then chartered a Jet,to save the Customs Irritation.

Is this Correct?What qualifies her to have this Fancy Position,Other than being from the Struggle.


Nkoana-Mashabane was born in Ga-Makanye, Limpopo. During the apartheid era she was an activist in the United Democratic Front (UDF). Nkoana-Mashabane went on to be appointed as South African High Commissioner to India and Malaysia. Her former husband, Ambassador to Indonesia Norman Mashabane, was recalled after being charged with sexual harassment.[2] He was subsequently cleared by a foreign affairs inquiry and died in a car accident in 2007.

On her return to South Africa, Nkoana-Mashabane became Limpopo's Local Government and Housing Member of the Executive Council, winning a wide following in the province for her efforts to root out corruption in low-cost housing programmes and her hands-on approach to rural housing.

Nkoana-Mashabane was elected to the ANC's National Executive Committee in December 2007. She was the lowest scoring candidate to be elected to the Committee, winning the 80th and last seat on the Committee with 1,337 votes.[3]

President Jacob Zuma appointed Nkoana-Mashabane as Minister of International Relations and Cooperation on 9 May 2009. Zuma subsequently disputed suggestions that this was an unusual appointment in light of Nkoana-Mashabane's apparent lack of foreign policy experience, saying that "the ANC knows the strengths of this comrade" and noting that she was a member of the ANC National Executive Committee.[4]
 
Thanks pobox4701 for getting us some info on this lady. Too be honest initially I found her coming across as quite friendly and genuine. To expect that Government ministers in this country are selected for real and thorough knowledge and expertise in her ministry is really asked too much in Msanzi. And I found it for those reasons very astonishing too hear about that Norway private jet story. The big question is of course, what was in her bag ??? Some on other websites suggest drugs, maybe just sex toys , a nice fancy vibrator. After all she is mostly without partner on all those long trips, costing taxpayers more than 12 million Rands over the last year. Many private jets had to be chartered.

Unless it was a Chocolate Chip or a Raisin, she spent her money wisely now if only some of the others would fix their teeth.
 
After all we also have a Minister of Economic Decline, who was for many years a Union Leader in the Western Cape, in the clothing manufacturing sector. Where during his influential time in power over there, a total of more than 100,000 jobs were lost in this sector countrywide.But apparently he is a very decent and sincere guy. He has been making a bit more sensible statements lately, although the new plan to procure 75% of Gov supplies locally is pure protectionism and will cost the taxpayers Billions of extra Rands. Benefiting the usual well connected few only.

DA MP says minister also run up R10m bill for charter flights

Gravy Plane: International Relations Minister spends over R10 million on charter flights

A reply to a parliamentary question has today revealed that International Relations Minister, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, spent over R10 million on 14 chartered international flights between 1 April 2010 and 30 June 2011.

Each flight cost an average of almost R750 000.

We calculate that had the Minister used commercial airlines, like ministers should do, she would have saved the South African people R9.6 million.

This is the same minister who, in September this year, chartered a flight from Oslo apparently to avoid having her luggage scanned, as required by international law.

But now a different picture is emerging. The chartered flight from Oslo was not a one-off - expensive chartered flights are clearly her preferred mode of travel.

No doubt the cost of these flights to the South African people is the furthest thing from her mind as she kicks back on a luxury jet. Now she owes us all an explanation.
It is up to the Minister to tell us why she chose to abuse public money for private jets. The DA will be writing to the Public Protector to request an investigation into the Minister's conduct.

Minister of International Relations travels in style

Another reply to a parliamentary question received from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) today reveals that Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane spent R2.9 million on international hotel stays.

This follows a reply received earlier today that indicated Minister Nkoana-Mashabane spent over R10 million on 14 chartered international flights.

This is clearly a minister with expensive taste.

In a statement earlier today, I indicated that we will be asking the Public Protector to investigate the Minister's conduct. We will now ask the Public Protector to include the Minister's hotel stays in this investigation.

The following information was included in the reply:

The Minister stayed in 4 and 5 stars hotels, including hotels in the Hilton Group, Sun International and the Westin;
The average cost per stay was R47 351; and
The duration of the stays varied from one to five days.
Whilst the Minister did not provide a breakdown of the duration and cost of specific stays a conservative estimate indicates that she spent R9 500 per night on accommodation at the very least.

We understand that international travel is part of the Minister's job description. But we don't believe there is any obligation on her to stay in fancy hotels and fly in private jets.
