Major AWS outage in South Africa

Amazon Web Services (AWS) appears to be having an outage causing headaches for Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) customers in its South African region.

Some report they can directly connect to existing servers but can't log into their AWS console and select the region to make changes or spin up new servers.

Everything seems to be working fine again.

The web console was not working but all of our services were still up and running so no real downtime.
CLI was also still working as usual.

I received no downtime notifications for my local sites hosted with AWS in CT. SES, SNS, EC2, IAM and S3 working fine for me today fortunately.

Azure got smart, they hide their shyte in someone elses DC... so the aircon serviceman won't be able to target them

It was a console outage with no services affected.

It was an IAM authentication and authorization issue, so if your resources are utilizing roles (as they should be) to access other AWS services, there could be issues such as degraded performance.
