ok here goes.i have a flash drive right, now 3 days ago i copied a avi on to the flash drive from another pc(which is virus free).
I placed it in my usb an it showed nothing.Right i checked for errors and tried to format the flashstick with no success.
It did ot want to format(error) and when i tried to put something on it like eg...a file or mp3(vista gives me a error that there is no such file..weird..).
All my usb ports works as when i plug stuff in it works like wifi usblan/controler..etc

Now here comes the very sad part..my mp3 player which i won on my adsl also does this now and cannot start.
It shows the mp3 sansa icon but when i try to format it it says windoes cant format it.The same with my flash drive.and if i try to put a mp3 on the sansa xpress it gives me a error(windows is unable to complete the format)

when i drag a file on to the mp3 player or flash drive it gives me a error(windos need to first format)then another error(windows could not complete the format)
windows also tells me error(make sure the disk is not read only...etc.

With tears in my eyes i ask you wtf is going on....Strange that both flash stick and mp3 player is fkd..its like its corrupted....I dont know what to do as i googled but its useless...
what do i do now.:(:(

i tried all the other six ports, with no luck.
there is a corupted looking icon on the mp3 player, the flash stick just cant work now.
when i double click it i get a bsod

@ killa itried it on another pc,still says to me i must first format it but when i try it says format failed..what the mudaafk..I am gonna blow a gasket..I cant handle this stress.
i mean can windows corrupt both my flash products...damn it to hell.
I really need a solution or someone that can fix a corrupted flash device

C:Documents and Settingsld13>format /?
Formats a disk for use with Windows XP.

FORMAT volume [/FS:file-system] [/V:label] [/Q] [/A:size] [/C] [/X]
FORMAT volume [/V:label] [/Q] [/F:size]
FORMAT volume [/V:label] [/Q] [/T:tracks /N:sectors]
FORMAT volume [/V:label] [/Q]
FORMAT volume [/Q]

volume Specifies the drive letter (followed by a colon),
mount point, or volume name.
/FS:filesystem Specifies the type of the file system (FAT, FAT32, or NTFS).
/V:label Specifies the volume label.
/Q Performs a quick format.
/C NTFS only: Files created on the new volume will be compressed
by default.
/X Forces the volume to dismount first if necessary. All opened
handles to the volume would no longer be valid.
/A:size Overrides the default allocation unit size. Default settings
are strongly recommended for general use.
NTFS supports 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192, 16K, 32K, 64K.
FAT supports 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192, 16K, 32K, 64K,
(128K, 256K for sector size > 512 bytes).
FAT32 supports 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192, 16K, 32K, 64K,
(128K, 256K for sector size > 512 bytes).

Note that the FAT and FAT32 files systems impose the
following restrictions on the number of clusters on a volume:

FAT: Number of clusters <= 65526
FAT32: 65526 < Number of clusters < 4177918

Format will immediately stop processing if it decides that
the above requirements cannot be met using the specified
cluster size.

NTFS compression is not supported for allocation unit sizes
above 4096.

/F:size Specifies the size of the floppy disk to format (1.44)
/T:tracks Specifies the number of tracks per disk side.
/N:sectors Specifies the number of sectors per track.

FORMAT e: /fs:fat

Maybe try and do this outside windows...

id13 ,i know you trying to help..but damn that looks so complicated.i never worked dos so hard before daaaaamn...

Another thing you can have a go at first is:
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management
Do you see the flashdisk there?

If not:
Turn off PC
Insert troubled device
Turn on PC
Hammer on F8 (or equivalent) and select the Boot in safe mode with command prompt when the option appears
Wait
Wait
Command Prompt will appear
Try and find out what drive is your flashdisk
This is crucial - you need to Know what drive is your flashdisk
Now type: FORMAT X: /FS:FAT

Where X is your flashdisk's drive.

[Edited] Already covered above.

Seems like you are have a seriously k@k day, dablakmark8, with this and the other thread.

 hey! i just lost a USB drive last weekend! same thing:

USB drive stopped working. plugged out, back in, tried to format, "windows was unable to complete the format" or something like that. so restart, try again, no dice.

three different pc's give the same result. this drive worked gloriously for about 1.5 years, and then POOOF, dead. and now dbm8 has the exact same error?

could we blame eskom? :P

tly ,i am ready to blow my brains out all over this damn keyboard.....
did you check da link i gave.
sandisk website is loadiing so slow,i jst cant get in

it better not be eskom,I am gonna sue those bastards....wait let me relax and do like libs said, there is always a easy solution...let me boot in safe mode and try that dos format,as i already tried the disk managment stuff, and the safe mode option.

I cant believe the utility's i downloaded don't work they all fail to fix it

ok i got it right to fix the mp3 player..kinda,still a bit dodgy, but it is working..
i seached for 2 hours on the net for a fix and itryed this one fix.
I went to a store and asked them to borrow me a sd card and slotted it in and the databaseupdate was reading and presto the mp3 came out of its corrupt state..weird,but its a fix..i said thanks to the guy at the store and off i went with my head bobbing..
Now back to the flash stick..well tonight i will try to fix that..
