Eskom installed 2 MTD8 switches on our DB for the geysers. Shortly after we ran into problems. Called Absa insurance who send an electrician and more disaster. I opened the DB found and wires, CB's as well as the Switches were dabbling all over. I tried to just connect everything to the panel properly. I do not understand the wiring of the switch when it comes our 1976 house. There is, what is called a Geyser Isolator and Circuit Braker and now the switch, which seems to not be wired correctly. I did the labeling anew as the old was plastic cracking and fading. Here is Pictures. Hope for advice as I am disabled and on a disability pension, so money is for survival., I have cancer and want to leave my wife without headaches. DB1.pngDB2.pngDB3.pngDB4.png

A hearty welcome to the forum!

From what I've seen in the past, the MajorTech units will eventually present problems due to their backup batteries dying ... and the batteries cannot be replaced!

Perhaps the Hellermann units are better - who knows? (The transparent flip covers on the Hellermann units do not fall off like the MajorTech ones.)

Would it not be far better to call out the insurance again? (Call-outs and the first hour of labour is usually covered, and their own previous workmanship should also still be covered, presumably?)

I had the TD8 unit as my swimming pool pump timer. But with all the loadshedding the thing died. What I have done now is set an alarm on my Wife's phone for 4am and 8am for her to switch the pump on and off.

Personally I prefer the Sonoff & contactor combination. Easier to configure, and less worries about battery dying etc. Also, you get contactors (I use Hagers) with manual override in case you have issues with the Sonoff. I've never used that option, though.

Did op said "eskom "install it.
I did replace their batteries, But don't like this model.
Also use a slave relay to handle the current.

Thankyou everyone. Followed the diagram, watch a few videos online. Did replace the batteries in the controllers and all is working nicely now. I did buy a set of those fancy red and yellow screw drivers and pliers as well as one of those voltage testers. I labelled each breaker and switch. and feel confident now to redo the outbuildings sub DB over the next month or so. Didn't get electrocuted.

The greatest news is that I had my annual cancer scan and all is clean now.

Regards.
