I have two user accounts on a Windows 7 system.
'Administrator' and 'User'. Admin is password protected and User is not.
I want to make the 'User' profile automatically logon when windows is started.

Can anyone assist me?

Type netplwiz into the run box.

Uncheck users need a password to log in.
Select the user in the list and enter the password. That should hopefully work.

That did not work. I need to "Hide a user account" but it must still be active. so the other one can log on automatically. I think there must be some registry changes to do this

netplwiz can do what your opening post asked for, it's always worked reliably and is the same thing as "control userpasswords2" in Windows XP. You don't need to "hide" an account for another to be able to log in automatically.

Just to clarify on czc's post.

Run netplwiz
Uncheck the option "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer" (if it is already unchecked, check it then uncheck it)
Click Apply
A dialog box should appear asking for a user name and password of the account you want to auto log in. Enter the account name and password for the account you want to automatically log in at startup.
Click OK.
Restart machine to test that it worked.

Also your second post conflicts somewhat with your first, perhaps if you still can't get it to work try rephrasing and maybe some details on what went wrong or happened.

EDIT: Browser beat me to it :(

robertwj:
I'm always configuring my Windows to log in automatically, but to do that you'll need to do the following:
1) Set a password for the user
2) Run: control userpasswords2
3) Within the 'control userpasswords2' dialog, you can then uncheck the option that states that users must provide a password to log in. Once you do that, it will prompt you with a dialog where you enter the username & password for the user that will be logged in automatically.

Just take note that you might want to disable the prompt for password when the PC recovers from standby.
