and I'd better make sure it's one that works too. Seems a bit risky to me.
Also, why then would a downloaded youtube apk also not work? It tries to install via app installer, and bypasses play store totally, doesn't it?

Just something I remember worked for me sometime back. Don't really see the risk tbh. Worst case scenario you reinstall play store and you still have the original problem.

I think an optimized version of the app remains in the cache, so uninstall the app and wipe you cache from recovery. Alternatively, after removing the app, copy the apk to /system/app and reboot. It MIGHT work.

Considering this, I think you might be on the right track:

Will be trying that out.
Clearing the cache.... is that on the bootup screen? I mean, the one that you get if you turn on the phone while holding a volume button?

Hi Zeus

You need to Root the phone, install the incorrect version you had, un-install it, reboot the phone, install fresh version. Can un-root again then if you want.
