Making changes to your medical aid

Sadly we are looking at something similar to that soon

Cancelled our family's in total last month. Can't afford any medical aid's rates any longer - not even hospital plans. Now Government hospitals for us when an emergency hits.
Shame man, if you can't you can't even though a "poverty spec" Hospital Plan goes a long way when it goes tits up.

I've only ever had a HP.

That's the problem I am facing....

With the economic decline, I am currently earning just enough to prevent me from claiming poverty or getting onto the lower end medical aids like Keycare, etc.. But, do not earn enough to get onto a R5k hospital plan for my family or R6.5k full entry level medical aid with savings.

So, left in the middle we are forced to government hospitals.

Lucky yous, I have cancer my meds cost like R25k a month (used to be R50k until few month ago they announced a generic which halved the price). Medical aid covers 80% so 3-4 months a year I'm ~R6k out of pocket (used to be ~R12k).

Not complaining since my treatment works, bloodwork has been great for a couple years now, but the reality is.. if my medical goes, so do I.

cANCered. Twice.. due to some poepol politician who cannot fathom anything outside his ignorant & dumb worldview.

Sad but true, Been without medical for ±8 years already.

They're a bunch of money crabbing scum. pay pay pay and if you don't use it, you get nothing in return.

Already switched to medical insurance with a cheap hospital plan. Don't have any chronic issues so it suits me.

My medical aid is a total ripoff. I dont understand why because I earn more, I should pay 2.4x more than the person on the bottom scale for exactly the same hospital benefits. Honestly why? I have questioned it with them and they just keep laughing at me (honestly they laughed.)

But it gets better. None of my day to day benefits get paid for. So each year I spend about R10k for my family on day to day. So hand it to them. And when I get my IRP5. My medical amount not paid for by the medical aid, reflects as R100.

And no we arent on discovery. They keep punting us that we save R100pm because we arent on Discovery but we get zero benefits.

I was told that not being on medical aid for a specific time will result in increased premiums when rejoining. Best to keep one at the lowest rate, if possible.
