making my signature a font

is there a way to make a hand written signature a font, I mean like scanning my signature them use gimp to trim it then make it a font so when I write my letters I can use that font as signature
 
So you want to make a font so that the only thing you can type with this font is your signature?
 
Don't think this is quite what you are looking for - but several years ago, came across a website that offered something similar.

You downloaded a template from the website, that had the alphabet and a series of numbers and other keyboard symbols on it, with little 'boxes' underneath each letter. You printed this out, and then filled in the boxes with your own hand. This was then scanned again, and uploaded to the website. A few minutes later, you could download your own "font", created from your own handwriting.

We played around with it a bit. Had the font installed into Word, and typed up a few memos... It was quite freaky printing a document in your own handwriting... We had a good few laughs about pranking one of our stressed-out partners, by doing the same with his handwriting, and then having "him send himself" a fax from the future - he wasn't very tech-savvy - it would have blown his mind! :D

It was fun as a novelty - but pretty useless. The 'font' could obviously only be 'read' by other Word users, if they too had your font installed on their system, otherwise Word would simply default to one of the standard ones...

Today, I get the same childish thrill when I convert my handwritten notes on my iPad to pdf-'text' - but then I'm immature like that. :p

It would of course help if I can remember the name of the website. But since I cannot - this has arguably been a complete waste of time... Good luck with your search!
 
There are a few programs that you can use to create your own font. Not sure about simply scanning it and then having the application transform it into a font but google is your friend.

Maybe have a look on Dafont for some handwritten fonts (there are tons!)
 
Hello forged signatures.

Perhaps change your signature to Wingdings and skip the custom development bit...?
 
Lol i havnt seen a persons signature that can be made up from individual letters, most people start their signatures with a readable letter then proceed with a few squiggles and end with a line through the signature?Anyways it would make you signature easier to copy so becareful if you go this route.
 
Yes, there are a number of sites that will convert your signature to a TTF. Link.

A previous employer had mine done (back in the 90s), and I still use it in certain correspondence. Installing the sig font (TTF) is a standard par of my PC setup routine.
