Just a heads up I guess to future Explorer 2 users.

Our old UEC decoder died on the weekend :(
Went to makro and picked up the Explorer 2. When a staff member approaches me and asks if it's for a new installation or an exisiting.
So I tell him it's an existing one and that I have a SATCR LNB and a dish.
No I need to pay an extra R1000 for a new 80cm dish and a SMART LNB. So I tell him I recon he's talking rubbish, but he's convinced it won't work.

So I go home, plug the new decoder in and it works perfectly right off the bat, no new LNB needed.
The manual recommends a SMART LNB and 80cm dish for better performance, but yeah.

So don't believe everyone you come across.

Thats pretty standard at places like Makro really.... and most electronics retailers. The guys know very little, and rabbit only what they are taught.

No mystery here at all. A SLNB is just a fancy SATCR LNB, with a few more "features" that may or may not be required by a specific customer.

IF you have only one Explora, OR if you have a dual SACTR LNB and a second Explora, THEN a SLNB is not needed, PROVIDED you never want to upgrade to 3 decoders on XV, or use the LNB for passing the HB signal. The added advantage is that IF you have two Explora decoders connected to a dual SATCR LNB, both will work straight off at the default network settings.

In the end it is all about providing customers with the correct information so that they are able to make informed purchasing decisions.

PS: You are sure that the old UEC 4 tuner did die? What was the error message you got? Have you still got the old decoder?
