The major changes in Opera will not happen very soon, they will implement changes on mobile browser before touching Pc browser and that will only be near year end, and just because they are moving to webkit it doesnt mean its a bad thing, right now no one knows whats going on behind the curtains. They have always been the best browser in my eyes, not just because of speed, but because its highly configurable and to be blunt their speedial feature just kills other browsers ( yes you can add it to chrome and firefox via extensions, but it still not the same thing and surges the resource usage ) and until that changes i will continue to support them.
Analyst are always highly critical and always fearing the worst, Opera has recently purchased Skyfire as well, and from what ive read Opera team are already implementing patches from Presto into Webkit, so in the long run Chrome browser will also improve, so there is probly alot going on that no one knows about, im sure the Opera team know what they are doing.
And as i stated, currently it is the best web browser, Ive tried them all, I live online, and Opera just feels smoother, looks better, runs faster most of the time, uses less resources, less bandwidth, has most common features built in without the need for additional extensions and is highly configurable. So while it holds this standard it deserves its place in the Distro
