Malatsi announced commitment to finalising policy on Wireless Open Access Networks

Communications minister Solly Malatsi has announced that his department was committed to finalising a policy direction on Wireless Open Access Networks (WOANs).

In a brief remark during his Budget Vote speech in Parliament this week, Malatsi said the policy direction aimed to create greater competition and more affordable data for all South Africans.

So what if government gave the spectrum to operators (freemium), and in return, had operators pay a royalty per GB/TB transferred

general understanding was that the next policy direction would be to remove / delete the WOAN policy - this seems odd

Sound like a new and exciting way for government to loot the fiscus.

We now have LEO options, we don't need this. What we need is a rethink on BEE so others can uplift unknown people without giving their companies away.
