"..RM149 for 5Mbps, RM199 for 10Mbps, and RM249 for 20Mbps.

In Singapore, a 100Mbps service – which is 5 times the speed of a 20Mbps connection – only costs about RM200.."

"..the 5Mbps service is capped at 60GB of data per month. The 10Mbps service is capped at 90GB while the 20Mbps service has a 120GB cap.."

Money: RM1 = R2.50

The malysian public complained about the cap (120GB) and now there is no cap.

"...The download cap on Telekom Malaysia’s UniFi high speed broadband service packages has been suspended.

The telco made the announcement on the Twitter microblogging site today and said it made the decision after taking into account public feedback on the cap. .."

No, we as SA citizens must be grateful for what we have from what I've seen on these forums. We are being done a huge favour ;)

Europe has much faster speeds. But South Korea,Japan and China is the fastest.

Its alot easier and cheaper to give people 50Mbps Uncapped Fibre when you located spitting distance from about 10 Huge international cities to connect undersea cables to and when you have a high population density.

Until laying fibre becomes cheaper than relaying copper we will never get close to these speeds

I agree with you.

Some people like to play ignorant, and forget that SA is like an isolated island far from the big international arteries and to lay down a cable to connect SA with Europe or ASIA is expensive, never-mind USA. Also, SA is sparsely populated, imagine the cost of laying down fiber optic cable between Johannesburg and Upington. Though the SA government can do better than what they are doing now.

+1, there was an article in the Cape Argus about that not too long ago.

Malaysia still suffers from low speeds on trans-pacific lines, most of the Malaysian people i know online struggle with lags on American gaming servers, otherwise their internet speeds are amazing.

another main reason for SA taking so long to catch up is that it's not really in the governments interest to provide better service and infrastructure when you are a monopoly that can charge the earth for the services you already provide.

Make sure that the politicians get 10% of every meter of fibre laid and you will have a brand new network in no time :p
