Johannesburg - ANC Youth League president Julius Malema left many residents of Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg, with good hopes for the future on Saturday.

"I hope Malema's visit will soon lead to job creation and end of poverty in this area, resident Johanna Rabure said.

Rabure, 30, was one of about 5 000 people who cheered the youth league leader when he arrived and left the Diepsloot recreation centre. Many people jumped for opportunities to see and take pictures of Malema with their cellphones.

His visit was an effort to drum up support for ANCYL marches to be held next week....
Malema used the word "makula", which has been translated to mean "coolie", a derogatory term for Indians.

He said certain journalists did not know African languages well enough and often translate things "wrongfully".

Malema vowed to fight for the restoration of land to the people and was prepared to go to jail in his fight for the poor. "Every time we sing or speak for our freedom, other people take us to court," he said.

"When Nelson Mandela fought for land, they took him to prison just like us. This means there is no freedom in this country."

He lambasted the cabinet ministers for discouraging poor people from marching against poverty.

"Do not listen to them [ministers] because their lives are always surrounded by luxuries while you live in poverty."

wtf?

As some of you may know, I've joined the Youth League and so far I'm starting to see disillusionment in the Youth League with Malema. Quite a number don't speak up against Malema because of fear of being sidelined. Yesterday I was at another ANCYL branch and I told them that I don't support the march because you can never demand jobs, that doesn't make sense. I explained to them (without insulting them and being condescending) how the economy works and quite a few of them seemed to have had a change of heart. I also said I will only consider joining the march if Malema himself will march, i.e. walk from Beyers Naude to the JSE, Chamber of mines and Union Buildings. I told them if Malema walks then I will walk behind him. They were all laughing but they got my point.

Sometimes this tendency amongst most South Africans to be reactive to Malema's verbal diarrhea does not work. We must start being proactive. We live in a racially unequal society. We can blame the ANC and Apartheid all we want but the solution is to come up with solutions and implement them. Most of what Malema said yesterday in Diepsloot is correct, BUT us educated people obviously know that he is saying it to line up his pockets. The poor people know that Malema lives a luxurious life but they choose to forget that because no other politician is speaking on their behalf.

We need to start being creative and help South Africa transform from having a poor majority to having a well-off majority. My plan is to infiltrate the ANCYL from within, hopefully I will succeed, what are you doing besides posting comments on internet forums?

Well good on you then for at least introducing the concept of "thinking" to the YL. Whereas you have been able to do this if I did and said exactly the same as you to the YL I would have been called a racist agent and chased out no doubt :D
