Malema may become next Mandela

I am a huge fan of Mandela. He is one in a billion (the other sic usually don't make it through due to bad luck) and I highly doubt we will see his kind for a very long time.

The thing is - I'm not naive... He owed a lot of people for supporting him while he was in prison as opposed to weakening his grip on the ANC. So he started the whole "putting the uneducated into power" debacle for a valid reason. Blame Mbeki/Zuma for carrying it on.

Also, the ANC promised so many things which they could not deliver, but then again - considering the people at the time were clever enough to know they wouldn't be able to do it, I reckon they must have had a reason for all that.

Take as an example - leaflets saying that the ANC will give the house of the madam to the maids and garden boys when they came into power. People wanted to hear that - but it never happened. Not because they couldn't do it, but because Mandela didn't want to. It was a tactic to get as many as possible to vote for them as opposed to the more hard-line parties. Which, if they got a little power, would have turned SA into a Zimbabwe very very quickly.

Mandela might not be completely innocent - but the fact that he did not look for blood and revenge when he came to power is one of the most powerful exercises in forgiveness ever recorded. The entire white population of SOuth Africa should be kissing the ground he walks on.

More of a broken record than a recycle bin but I think that's about as iconic as it's going to get for him.
 
...except that Julius Malema is a school dropout who is as thick as a plank (a G for woodwork, and an H for politics), whereas Nelson Mandela is a lawyer, a respected leader, a statesman and a Nobel Peace Prize winner. The only thing they have in common is species, and even that is doubtful in the thick inkwenkwe's case.

Mandela prevented a civil war in this country through his stance of negotiating and not wanting to go the route of revenge.

Whilst many of his policies during his tenure are debateable, the fact remains that if he had not poured cold water on his comrades and cooled their urge to take immediate control of all and sundry, South Africa might very well have been a very different place right now.

Bear in mind that a true leader is one that finds the balance between the extreme and liberal stance of the party that one belongs to. Mandela was but one individual amongst many who held the ability to make decisions that shaped the future of this country.
 
That's is a insult to Mandela, but please lock Malema up for 25+ years.

Also, as you say, mandela "poured cold water", while malema on the other hand stokes fires (for example, his giving lekota's son bursary money publicly yesterday).

As if he would have been released while baying for blood :rolleyes:. As for civil war the stats claim millions murdered, assaulted, raped. Sounds like a civil war to me. Oh and what a future awaits us under Zuma and Malema :o

Yeah we saw him pouring "cold water" on Zuma and co in the E.Cape recently

Mandela knew to let go of power. He had his 4 years and said: "Enough."
Let someone else continue with this mess. That's why Mandela was the Statesman. Mbeki wanted to hold onto power and if Zuma is willing to accept defeat and does not force a lifelong presidency, he'll be a great statesman too.
Malema too for that matter.
 
I have an idea!

Lets lock up Malema until he finishes as degree (any degree, I mean we shouldn't expect too much). I reckon 10-15 years for high school and another 40+ for the actual degree will be just about right!

Then again, unless we find a proper political prison as opposed to the plethora of criminal ones, he could end up being more knowledgeable in extortion, trafficking(drugs and people) and a multitude of other handy things he will use to the max when he comes out...

Catch-22...
 
If you mean those dodgy letters that had "You will get the madams house"... nope. Mom does though...
