GTI BELONGS TO THE EFF: GARDEE
A car purchased by the EFF belongs to the party, despite it being registered in the name of a private company, its secretary general Godrich Gardee said on Sunday.
"As part of its internal processes, of course the EFF bought a VW Golf 6,
which is part of the assets register of the organisation," he said in a statement.
"The car was supposed to be registered with the traffic department and they advised that as a political organisation, we are not eligible for registering the car. The car was therefore registered privately, while the organisation held all the rights to the car."
City Press reported on Sunday that a Golf GTI was bought late last year using money from the EFF's main bank account, however records showed that the party did not own the car.
The newspaper said an invoice for R377,500 for a grey Golf GTI Edition 35 DSG with 25,000km on the clock was made out to the EFF HQ on September 3 from a dealership in Polokwane.
It was paid on September 8 to the dealership from an EFF account.
Instead of being registered as an official EFF car, it was registered in the name of a private company, Voorsprong Trading and Projects, whose active director is Jimmy Matlebyane, a 22-year-old student from Seshego. The previous director was another student Tebatso Malema, understood to be Malema's cousin.
Gardee said the vehicle was part of the party's internal security arrangements and that media reports about it were "compromising the security of the EFF."
He said the EFF would not use a car which was not registered with the traffic department.
"As we said before, the EFF has one of the best internal control systems and mechanisms and able to account for each and every cent at its disposal."

The corrupt ********* politicians pissing everyone off with their inability to exhibit any kind or moral fiber. Even if they exhibited it it would be a nice change - but they're such *********s at the core; the kind of people who are still *********s behind closed doors - that to even pretend to be leaders with a functioning moral compass is beyond them.
