Traffic officials have confirmed that they have arrested the driver of EFF leader Julius Malema for alleged speeding and failure to stop at a roadblock.

The vehicle carrying the EFF head was reported to have clocked 187km/h in a 120 kilometre/hour zone near Parys in the northern Free State.

Malema was allowed to drive himself to Bloemfontein where he will appear in court for violating the Riotous Assemblies Act by calling on his party members to illegally occupy vacant land.
"The car that was taking Mr Malema to court was driving at 187 and it failed to stop when the traffic officers tried to stop them.

Interesting.
But would the authorities also go in hot pursuit for the ANC ministers or Numbawan, when they exceed the speed limit ?
Now the EFF leader is not so political correct anymore.

They won't, since those driving the ministers and Zuma are police officers driving official vehicles hence they are given the benefit of the doubt by virtue of their official status, Malema and his driver are just ordinary people like you and me hence that law will come down very hard on them.

Does not make it right for the blue light brigade to drive recklessly though.

The free pass extends beyond official government functionaries though. It is extended to anyone in the inner circle of the ruling alliance, as it did for the same Malema while he was a juiced in member of the YL.

Agreed.

Malema's driver released on free bail

Bloemfontein – Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema's driver was released on free bail on Monday after being caught allegedly speeding and then refusing to co-operate with traffic officials, Free State director of traffic management George Ramotsoto said.

It was not immediately clear whether the driver appeared in court or not.

The driver was recorded allegedly driving at 187km/h in a 120km/h zone in the Parys area ahead of the EFF leader's court date in Bloemfontein over a call to supporters to occupy vacant land.

According to Ramotsoto, traffic officers had to follow the vehicle all the way to Ventersburg, more than 100km away, because the driver allegedly would not stop.

He was finally arrested in Ventersburg in line with traffic law that dictates that being caught driving at that speed means automatic arrest.

Malema then took the wheel and drove himself the rest of the way to make it to court on time.

Ramotsoto did not immediately have further details at hand, including the driver's name and his court date.

Police referred queries to the office of the Free State MEC for transport, which in turn referred queries to the police.

Search for second Malema driver launched

A search has been launched for a second driver, supposedly the one that exceeded the speed limit whilst transporting EFF leader Julius Malema to Bloemfontein for a scheduled court appearance yesterday.

This is according to Free State Director of Traffic Management, George Ramotsoto. He confirmed to OFM News this afternoon that the driver who was arrested in Ventersburg had supposedly switched places with the first driver, who was doing 187km/h in a 120km/h zone near Parys and drove past a traffic official.

Ramotsoto adds that the individual who was arrested has since been released on a warning, and that a case of obstruction of justice has been opened against him.
