Expelled ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema's properties will go under the hammer on Friday, reported The New Age on Thursday.

SA Revenue Service spokesperson Adrian Lackay said a farm and a string of movable and immovale assets belonging to Malema had been attached.

"Yes, action has been taken against Malema because he owes R16.1-million to Sars. I cannot disclose the value of his assets to be auctioned but I can confirm that they include his farm.

"We got a court order and we are now interested in auctioning the properties to recover the revenues owed," said Lackay.

Lawyers from Brian Kahn Attorneys said on Wednesday they were no longer representing Malema.

Details about why the law firm had abandoned Malema's case were confidential, said lawyer Nicqui Galaktiou.

"We have not 'ditched him'... We no longer act for Malema," she said.

Earlier in February, Galaktiou said the firm had been instructed to file papers opposing an application made to the High Court in Pretoria by the SA Revenue Service to have Malema's estate sequestrated.

Malema had until 18 February to notify Sars whether he intended to oppose the application.

According to newspaper reports, Malema failed to meet the deadline.

gosh SARS didn't mess around when they said they wanted their money. shame poor farmer boy. he once was rich, but now he's poor. lol

Damn, how much money do you have to earn to owe SARS R16 million in taxes?

yip. Now you wonder what the other goverment/ANC cronies earn/get/bribe/kickbacks what SARS doesn't know about...

I think Malema wishes he could turn back the clock. He would have kept his mouth shut and pocket tenders.

He thought he was untouchable. Everyone seems to have deserted him.
JZ does not get angry, he gets even. I would be surprised in few years to see JM begging on the streets.

Can they not take his trust fund?
That's where the real money is....

That depends on the trust. If its a sham trust (which it seems to be from all reports) they can just file and order to have it opened and move all the assets of the trust back into his personal possession. Then they can attach the assets.

But But Why not redistribute it to the rightful owners? Why don't the state buy it and give it away?

Sad news but i hope he will find another farm and continue with what he loves.

This is not the end of Juju. He might be down now but does not mean he is finished.

The real question for Democracy in South Africa is why this money wasn't considered to be due when he was in power.

He's only being held accountable now that he's fallen out of favor with the chiefs. Before that he was untouchable.

seems like you were jelas of him ( sorry for spelling it wrong)

Not at all. We're glad that someone who stole from the poorest people in SA, while pretending he was fighting for them, is getting his just desserts.

or the Chief was not aware.

Actually I'd like him to rat out his "friends" now.

Make a racket Julias :)

That would be awesome!

Agreed. Money (and power) = Above the law in his mindset. And yip.. JZ showed his chronies not to cross him you will end up with nothing if you against JZ...

Nope.. the chief knew (maybe not the details). How could JM have Sandton house(s), farm, expensive cars, expensive clothes on R20-25 k p/m? JZ just turned a blind eye to were JM got his $$$ from. But going against the chief cost JM.
