Is it possible that Microsoft (or so they claim) will phone you claiming that you may have malware on your computer. And if so where do they get your number? Cannot remember what info you give when registering your software.

Thanks! Do programs such as Spyware, etc still have a place?

Spyware has a place - to get your banking details, personal info, etc.

Is it still being used? Largely!

Does PREVENTION still have a place? Only if you like your money.

Lol, this pretty much sums it up. Do not trust phone calls, emails, text messages etc

I had one again last week, was fun playing along and making it out asif I was computer illiterate.

Trying to install their crappy remote desktop app and so on, only to reveal after 20 minutes of problem solving that I was running Ubuntu with Cinnamon UI :D

You deserve a medal :D

Actually meant the program that checks for Spyware or Malware. Any ones that can be downloaded?

There are a few but each has a drawback. You can't go wrong with Malwarebytes AntiMalware. Others - like Norton - use your machine as test slug and spend their existence trying to reduce its speed to that of a calculator running Windoze Vista.
