The amount of malware targeted at Android devices jumped 76 percent since last quarter, to become the most attacked mobile operating system, according to McAfee.

2011 has also resulted in the busiest ever first half-year in malware history, including a first-ever appearance of Mac fake AV and a significant uptick in rootkits, suggesting that McAfee’s comprehensive malware “zoo” collection will reach a record 75 million samples by the year’s end.

Take some precautions boys and girls, it is a jungle out there!

One thing I think most people dont do is read the permissions, or even manage what applications do on their phones. Sometimes the normal applications is more scary than malware and people install them without even noticing what they just did.

I guess that is also one of the main reasons I love MIUI so much as it has a 3 fold way of helping you deal with applications.

SuperUser app that lets you see at a glance what apps are allowed to access what on your phone, You can also manage this with prompts for when a app wants to do something you dont like
GPS Location Data giving you individual control of the apps that yous your location data, setting up fake locations on apps you dont want to know where you are
Firewall where you can block on a per app basis what is allowed to use 3G and what is allowed to use WIFI

I honestly think this should be part of Android Stock OS as well.
