i am not sure if i have posted this in the right thread but i need some help please. i have this programme that installs itself everytime i switch my computer on. i delete/uninstall it everytime but as soon as i switch my computer on its back and starts running. it scans my computer and tells me i have spywareor whatever on my pc and i must buy the programme to clean my pc. i think its called MALWAREALARM (i have deleted it). how do i stop it coming back everythime i switch my computer on.

OK, download Spybot (google it), uninstall that malware program. install and update Spybot and run a scan and and it will remove it. Now before you restart after running Spybot, go to System in Control Panel, go to the System Restore tab and turn of system restore and restart. It should not appear again.

You can turn on System Restore again.

I would also suggest going into Internet Explorer (If you use it) and resetting your security settings to default levels and deleting the temporary internet files.

These things also sit in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp - so go there and delete as much as you can.

If you are familiar with editing the registry, you can also sniff around under : (start -> run -> regedit)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> MICROSOFT -> WINDOWS -> CURRENT VERSION -> RUN and see the programs that are running automatically at startup (Be careful when editing this list since it will include legitamate startup software

The other hiding spot is :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> SOFTWARE -> MICROSOFT -> WINDOWS -> CURRENT VERSION -> RUN

If you need to scan the computer again with another package AVG Free AntiSpyware is also one that you can use to scan your PC with in adition to Spybot, it has a 30 Day trial, but you can manually update and scan your system after that time. Its available from www.free.grisoft.com

Hope that helps

cool i will give it a go thats people. when it comes to the registry i would rather not go there as i dont know a thing about it so dont wanna mess around with it but i will try spybot. thanks

If spybot isn't able to remove the malware try running it in safemode, if that doesn't work either download and run spyware terminator. It's completely free and very good http://www.spywareterminator.com/

guys it seems to work with spybot thanks, but now i need your help again with emails. i have my internet account with TELKOM i have a problem sending emails. what settings do i put in to SEND and receive emails. i just downloaded INCREDIMAIL for my wife to use for her business but i can get emails but not send any.

i thought vista was so great,After all these months this is the first time i ever had a hijack.
this must be something common this hijacker.
