Cape Town - A former South African Air Force technician has been arrested for trying to supply weapons to a right-wing extremist group and is due to appear in the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Hawks spokesman Captain Paul Ramaloko said the 46-year-old Brackenfell man had a stock of munitions and wanted to “sponsor” the extremists – but was intercepted before he could carry out his plan.

Ramaloko wouldn’t name the group, nor say how many weapons the Hawks found in the suspect’s confiscated stockpile.

The man cannot be identified until he appears in court.

The Hawks confirmed that the man worked for the air force for over two decades.

According to his online CV, the suspect began his career as an armament technician in 1989, arming and disarming the air force’s Cheetah jets as well as “handling, packaging, storage and transportation of ammunition and explosives in the SAAF”.

He writes that he was also a member of the air force’s Bomb Disposal Team, a maintenance planner for the Gripen and Hawk fighter jets, as well as an explosives manager.

Originally from the Free State, his address was listed as Braambos Military Base in Louis Trichardt, Limpopo, until 2012. Then it changed to Brackenfell.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he was studying to be a paralegal practitioner through UCT at the time.

The suspect expressed unpatriotic sentiments online, writing on LinkedIn: “I need a sponsored Job in aviation with visa 457 URGENTLY PLEASE.”

A 457 visa is an Australian work visa that allows skilled professionals to work in the country temporarily.

He added: “I love my studies... but i hate my country... wish i can emigrate to Canada or Australia.”
Link.

I don't about this man, but he won't be travelling or work abroad now that he had been caught with his pants down.

One thing though, what do this have to do with anything?

Well the cANCer fought apartheid and eventually got control of the country and are busy fking up the country and the South African people. How did they do it - by the same means so I see history repeating itself against the new apartheid.

You have no problems with right wing terrorists, but if the guy turns out to be Muslim, you will be shouting and crying for his execution.

You are a very disturbed man.

I think all terror threats are equal. If a white guy is going to attack a government building or a Muslim is going to attack a shopping mall... the threat is the same.

What is different is the global threat.... and the networks.

I find it fascinating how every threat from Piet Pompies with a shotgun is quickly uncovered and dealt with, but there are a lot of other threats in this country that are just left to slide.
Just an interesting observation.

And no this is not necessarily a white on black thing either it could be tribal and political party judging by the EFF comments.

I think they couldn't find an exact example so they just gave that. Probably other comments on Twitter/FB have been deleted.

Probable yes. Applying to obtain a visa 457 in order to temporary work in Australia have nothing to do with patriotism, this is mere opportunity. I don't know the timeline attached to the observations made by analysing his social media, but making a comment like this,

“I need a sponsored Job in aviation with visa 457 URGENTLY PLEASE.”

, while negotiating an illegal arms deal is indicating him to be a possible risk, a “Fugitive”.

This however in context is unpatriotic:

He added: “I love my studies... but i hate my country... wish i can emigrate to Canada or Australia.”

Then in context, there are also unpatriotic people in government. This man deserves to be punished, but the article is painting with a rather large brush in relation with visa 457.

Exactly what I was going to say! They're so on the ball when it comes to "right-wing" terror plots but when we see gangs using police and military issue assault rifles etc. then it's never ever addressed and the last we ever hear of it.

I call BS or give us some freaking details.

Exactly what I was trying to say ;)
We have far greater problems here with certain groups

Let's be honest. Every right wing plot uncovered since 1994 has turned out to be a wet firecracker.

Syndicates aren't really the same thing, though.

And these right-wing nutters never appear to be very smart, so they're likely easily apprehended.

Yup. So are there no real threts or are the real threts still being hatched?
I have seen a few times on crime stop (sabc) massive caches of weapons being found in houses that still fly the old flag. No doubt those weapons are better off the street but you as I mentioned before... You have to wonder about this NSA level of detection our gvt has for these wet fire crackers.
