Brits - A man died after his light aircraft crashed into the backyard of a home in Brits, in the North West on Saturday, the Hartbeespoort EMS said.

"It happened at around 10:00 yesterday [Saturday] when the small aircraft crashed on the northern side of the Brits Flying Club into the backyard of a home," spokesperson Loanne Louw told News24 on Sunday.

"Luckily he did not hit the house, or anyone [from the home]."

Louw did not know the cause of the crash, however she said that according the club, the plane apparently crashed after take-off.

Netwerk24 reported that the pilot was Andre Denoon, 45, a businessman from Rustenburg.

He reportedly crashed in the garden of Sakkie and Petro Saaiman.

The wreckage lay 4m away from their lapa.

According to Denoon's friend, Walter Kinnear, the businessman was an experienced pilot who flew for years.

Denoon was survived by his wife Tanya, and two daughters, Netwerk24 reported.

Did I miss the "August is Plane Crash Month" memo or something?

Sakkie Saaiman opened his first drink at 10am that morning, no need to wait for the boeing to fly over.
