Pretoria - A Pretoria man spent more than a week in the intensive care unit fighting for his life after he was attacked in an alleged racial incident in Kameeldrift.

The victim, Charles Magoro, who lives in the CBD, went to visit a friend two weeks ago when he was allegedly assaulted by two white men just off Zambezi Drive.

His friend Herbert Nevhutanda said they went to visit a friend in Kameeldrift.

“It was just after 7pm and we were driving back home. Our friend called and said he had forgotten his phone in the car.”

On their way to return the cellphone, Nevhutanda said they were stopped by what they assumed was a police car.

“The car was driving behind us, flashed its lights and ordered us to stop.

“Two white men came out of the car and told us they did not want Zimbabweans in the area because they were thieves.

“We told them we are not foreigners and in fact had our IDs in the car.”

During the exchange, Magoro, who was driving, got out of the car.

As he was explaining to the two men, they started assaulting him.

“They started swearing at him and kicking him. He fell to the ground and they started bashing his head.

“The one guy came to my side and started assaulting me.

“I ran into the bushes and hid.

Nevhutanda was afraid the two men would shoot him if they found him in the veld.

Their saving grace was when the friend who was to get the cellphone arrived in a big van and scared the men off.

The men opened a case of assault at the Kameeldrift police station.

Kameeldrift police spokesman Captain Jan Sepato said he could only verify the case on Monday.

Nevhutanda said he was not able to take down the registration number of the assailants’ car.

Magoro was admitted to Steve Biko hospital where he spent a week in the intensive care unit. He was moved to an ordinary ward on Friday.

That's not racism. It's xenophobia.

Isn't it?

...oh wait.

I call bull**** on this article to be honest. Since when is anyone allowed to mention race when crimes are reported?

Ordered to stop by another civilian car flashing lights? I don't buy this story.

You are allowed to when the alleged perpetrators are white.
