Pretoria - A man was arrested for praying and performing rituals outside the US embassy in Pretoria on Thursday, Gauteng police said.

Inspector Paul Ramakolo said the man was praying and chanting at the entrance to the embassy in Schoeman Street.

"Officials at the embassy alerted the police and when the police arrived the man tried to flee. After a chase he was apprehended.

"Chemicals and fake American dollars were found in his possession. There is reason to believe he was planning an attack on the embassy."

Police could not identify the chemicals in his possession.

The man was being held at Sunnyside police station and would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Monday to face a charge of money laundering.

US officials have just refuted the attack theory. He was there because he was a victim of the 'black money' scam.

Of all the embassy's to act like a crazy in front of, i wouldnt want to pick the paranoid US embassy. You just asking for it...
