Hi,

Which local companies do you regard as being the best managed services and hosting providers?

Specifically looking at companies offering high-end/premium local managed servers and network devices i.e. using decent branded hardware (HP, Cisco, etc) and quality data centres.

They can be any size I guess but it seems in general that smaller companies (not one man band types) provide better service and value for money.

Thanks.

There are several that I've come across. However, it really depends on what you want.
Afrihost, RSAWeb, IS, Imagine, Rackspace etc etc...

Tbh - it's more about personalities and what you're looking for specialisations in. e.g. here at Imagine we host several large cheap call companies who account for xxx GSM million minutes a month alone. We're known for our close personal service etc etc... we'll all say how great we are!

I'd suggest your best bet is contacting us all, with your requirements and letting us fight for your business. We'll prove what makes us better or not. Do that via email and get the responses back, then go and see the setup of the few you chose. That way you're sure to get the best pricing as well! http://www.imagine.co.za/business/server-hosting.html

- This only seems to be colocation?
I meant fully managed servers where all the patching, monitoring, hardware maint, log files and all the stuff needed to keep the OS running is looked after for you and the server and network hardware is usually leased from the ISP.

Thanks.

You should think of colocation as 'potentially managed servers' - ambigious I know but all of the companies should offer some form of management. It just depends on what you want managing. This will be why it's not really discussed in detail until you approach someone. Imagine manage a significant number of our client servers for operating system and hardware, however only a couple for S7 and software on the system.

Best to tell everyone your best case scenario, in detail, and see waht they come back with. Also, 24/7 1 hour/3 minute response, security etc etc.. you pay more for faster response times and accessibility but I'd have thought all of the above companies so do it.
