Managed to trace a WoW scammer

Sorry i don't subscribe to **** like FB ;) And did you ever ponder to think that it could be that this guy's hotmail account could have been hijacked ?:)

Well one guy is from Venezuela and the other from Ontario. One of the FB accounts has recent activity, adding new friends, selling clothing and posting from a blackberry. That's the guy in Ontario. The other guy that is the source of the message, well who knows, he could be compromised. Simply contacting him and using a little social engineering or expressing interest in his email warning could quickly get to the bottom of that but tbh I just can't be bothered. Other's find that fun I guess.

Or you can not visit dodge porn sites (and dont tell me you didnt go to one ;)), and/or use a stronger password. That way the idiots wont get access to your hotmail/wow/bank/anus.

@Prophet.. Your age is showing there with shell accounts ;) Cant say i ever emailed with them thou..

My email address has never been compromised, not in the 11 years I've had it. However, I bought gold many years ago using this hotmail of mine. Mistake. They stick your address in a massive mailing list and selling it off to the next highest bidder to be spammed for all eternity.

I did however have the savvy though to not link my WoW or any banking accounts to this email account which is purely for forum access etc. My main email account has never received a single spam or phishing mail, only legit banking and Blizzard mail.

There's no stopping this madness hehe. I always thought it was the Chinese. Was quite intrigued to discover otherwise.

Ah well, I had a little bit of a power trip with my Matrix styled header stalking but yeah, it's all good fun I guess :D

Hehe ye 4sure. And when I read your "nails on a chalk board" I literally got this cold feeling running up my spine!

lol remind me never to hire you for tracing, thats hardly earth shattering find. Nor does it stipulate where this guy is from, and a google search for that email address doesnt reveal anything spectacular. Hotmail account, theres your problem firstly ;)

I wish this was so easy. Most of the scam email originate from computers that belong to a Botnet and its not easy to get the botnet owners.

Most botnet's are easily identifiable these days, i remember back in the IRC days when having a legion of about 50,000 bots you could take down entire university networks. That being said most wow account hacks are purely stupid kids that go to sites like http://www.bIizzard.com/ because they're a bunch of lazy sloths to read the url properly they just accept it and continue, or they browsed a dodge site which had javascript exploits or flash (if they did not update)
