I am currently employed as Production/Operation Manager at a medium sized engineering company and looking for some insight on how to improve my management skills and if so what short courses one can take in order to improve. What books to read etc. I worked myself up towards management but the transition into management is not as easy as you expect. When you are working you always think that you can do a better job, but when you do start its not so green on the other side as most think.

I really love what I do so am looking at ways to improve going forward and with that also gain as much experience and knowledge so any advice will be welcome.

Don't let issues spiral out of control :D

Know the processes, if you can't measure it you can't manage it. See where are inefficiencies, why are things going wrong , why slow etc. Keep track of outages etc. Its all about knowing whats going on.
